Cantina food

Even though my expat colleagues mostly don't agree with me, I feel we have a pretty decent cantina. The taste of the food is fine, the variety larger than in an average German cantina, the ingredients are always fresh, and so far, I have not heard of anyone who became sick after eating there. Ok, the appearence is a bit different than we are used to in Europe, but hey, it's cantina food. And the price, well, for about 3,5 RMB (0,35 €) I'd say it's affordable :-)

Power cut-off - UPDATE

The power cut-off that I reported about the other day was in fact not a way to save energy. On the day after the cut-off we found out that it was indeed planned, but for maintenance or repair purposes. And the other thing we found out, was that the cut-off was planned for more than one day. So, the next day there was no power either. Shiqi called around to get some detailed information. "Tomorrow maybe also no electricity". "Maybe?" "Yes, maybe." This piece of information turned out to be wrong as well, luckily this time. On the third day, everything was back to normal again.

Actually, the whole thing was announced in the local newspapers. I should have read them more carefully!

Fuzhou forest park

It has already been a while since we visited this place. But because it was so worthwhile, and so very different from the usual city pictures you see about China, it would be a shame not to report about it at all.

The Forest park is situated in the northern part part of the city, about 7 km away from downtown Fuzhou. Being so close to the city center, I did not expect it to be such a large area with seemingly unspoiled natural tropical forest. Actually, the area closest to the park entrance is not very interesting if you are looking for a walk in nature and if you are trying to avoid the crowds. In fact, the place is very busy during weekends or holidays. There is an area to barbecue, a butterfly garden, a bird garden, and some other attractions. You will have to go a bit further before the real beauty of the forest park reveals itself: a mountaineous area with steep slopes covered with green trees and plants, mountain streams and during summer, a number of large waterfalls.

So far, we have only seen a very small part of it. But I am already looking forward to an opportunity to have a longer hike there. After that, I will hopefully be able to provide some more information about the Fuzhou Forest Park.

Long time no see

It's been busy these days. Settling down in a new place, building up new social contacts, starting a new job, and having a small kid around really consumes lots of time. Nice time, I am happy to be able to say!

It did result in the fact that I neglected a few things lately. Keeping contact with friends and family in Europe is one of them. I am sorry about that!!
Another thing that suffered from a lack of attention is this blog (not to mention Mylène's blog). I hope you did not abandon this site already by now.

So, time to catch up on some reports and stories about the life in Fuzhou...
