Hosting my blog

***Published again***
Recently, I discovered that this blog cannot be read by people in China. I am not sure whether the blogs from blogger.com are blocked by Chinese (proxy) servers automatically.

As I was planning to use this blog to write down some of my experiences and observations on a life in China for the people at home, it occurred to me that it would be a weird situation if everyone but me would not be able to access this blog!! Not a good idea, when I think of it.

So, what is the solution? Any suggestions, anyone? I am considering to register my own domain, and hosting my blog there. I hope that works.

In the past few days, I have been following the discussions about the conviction of the Chinese journalist, and the support of Yahoo China in this matter on Fons Tuinstra's weblog. These stories clearly show the struggle between the Chinese goverment and the Internet.

Never thought I would personally experience the effects of this struggle so quickly.

You do not seem to use the blogspot-host of blogger.com, Arnoud, so that would not explain why people cannot read your blog. Are you sure it can not be read in China? I'm currently in Europe, so cannot check it myself.

Hi Fons,
Yes, I checked it and the blog WAS not reachable in China. Therefore, I registered my own domain (...actually, this one) and moved the blog there. Now, it is reachable from China. The only question I have left is: can I access blogspot in China, to update my blog??

ah, I was a bit confused. As said in another comment: to access your interface, you use another IP-address that is not blocked. I use blogger.com myself.
Further: when you use a webbased RSS-reader, it is fairly easy to go around the block, even though you cannot go to the weblog itself. So, better get your favorite blogspot-weblogs into an RSS-reader before you go to China.
