Holiday in Shanghai

On 26 December we went to Shanghai for the first time with Mylène. For the first time, we could show our little girl to the family friends there. Of course, Mylène had already seen opa & oma, but all the uncles and aunts and cousins she did not meet yet. So, packed with enough clothes (because it was cold there) we took the plane and flew to Shanghai.

And we had a very nice time! Everybody liked Mylène, and Mylène enjoyed the attention. We spent a lot of time at opa & oma's place, who loved playing with Mylène (but decided to leave the diaper changing to us ;-)), and who cooked us again many delicious lunches and dinners. We also took Mylène out to see friends, to eat in some nice restaurants, to play in the toy section of department stores, and also to the Shanghai Aquarium (a very nice place, by the way).

Of course, we also used the opportunity to leave the house on several nights, after putting Mylène to bed, to do some shopping ourselves, see a movie, have a drink in a bar, etc. Going out together was something we hadn't done for quite a while already, so it really felt like a luxury to us.

As usual in winter, it was quite cold in Shanghai, and because in most houses in southern China, there is no central heating, also inside it was quite chilly. But this time, we came prepared (I still remember walking around with chicken skin all day, resulting in a nasty Chinese floo, six years ago): we brought enough warm clothes to be able to ware as many layers as the temperature would require.

Of course, we made many pictures during the stay. If you are interested in seeing some, you should check out the flickr site, via the box on the left side of this page.

Probably because there has been so many people talking to her, Mylène has picked up lots of new words during her stay in Shanghai. Sadly though, most of the new words are Chinese words. I'd better give her some extra lessons Dutch language in the coming weeks if I want her to catch up at least a bit. But anyway, it is really funny and interesting to see how quickly Mylène now imitates us when we say something to her, or when we make a particular gesture in her direction. The learning capabilities of young children is just amazing!
